Assessment of serum vitamin D level in children with type 1 diabetes mellitus: A cross-sectional study

Objectives: To estimate vitamin D levels in children with type 1 diabetes, and to evaluate its role the pathogenesis progress of disease.Method: The cross-sectional study was conducted at Paediatric Department Kafrelsheikh University Hospital, Egypt, from November 2019 August 2021, comprised either gender aged 3-18 years who were inpatients or visiting paediatric outpatient clinic. subjects enrolled into 3 groups. Those newly diagnosed diabetes group A, those established B, healthy matched for age randomly selected control C. Glycated haemoglobin, serum fasting C-peptide, evaluated using quantitative colorimetric determination,an automated analyser, enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay, respectively. Data analysed SPSS 25.Results: Of 80 subjects, 30(37.5%) A; 17(56.7%) boys 13(43.3%) girls mean 7.77±2.95 years. In there subjects; 14(46.7%) 16(53.3%) 9.6±3.62 There 20(25%) C; 10(50%) as many 8.38±2.68 (p>0.05). C-peptide significantly different between treatment groups (p<0.05). Between groups, B had better markers than A (p<0.05).Conclusion: Serum deficiency may play a insulin sensitivity cases diabetes.Keywords: Diabetes mellitus, C-Peptide, Colorimetry
